Systolic Phases of the Cardiac Cycle

چکیده
was determined from high-speed simultaneous recordings of the electrocardiogram, phonocardiogram, apexcardiogram, and carotid pulse. Data were obtained on children 1 mo to 13 years of age and analyzed to define the independent effects of aging and heart rate on the systolic intervals. Electromechanical systole (Q-II) was found to prolong with increasing age in children with the same heart rate. Pre-ejection period was also prolonged in older children and occupied an increased percentage of total systole. The interval from onset of contraction to first sound varied inversely with heart rate and was independent of age. Electromechanical delay and isometric contraction time were directly related to age and independent of rate. Ejection time varied directly with age and inversely with heart rate but occupied a smaller percentage of systole in older children. Alterations in systolic phase duration occurring with maturation reflect the normal functional adaptation of the developing heart. Measurement of these phases can provide useful information relative to cardiac function in children.

Dynamic changes of hemodynamic parameters and cardiac transcription of sirtuins in adaptive and mal-adaptive phases of pressure overload-induced hypertrophy in rats
Introduction: The aim of the study was to investigate the structural and hemodynamic changes as well as cardiac transcriptional profile of the key regulatory proteins, sirtuins family (SIRT1-7), in adaptive and mal-adaptive phases of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). Methods: LVH was induced in male Wistar rats (190±20g) by abdominal aortic banding. The third and sixteenth weeks post-surgery ...
متن کاملSystolic and diastolic learning: an analogy to the cardiac cycle.
It has been observed that the active-passive classification of adult learning can be viewed in terms of a systolic-diastolic model. This model represents an analogy to the cardiac cycle and the work done by the heart during these two phases of the cycle. The determinants of systolic and diastolic learning can be compared to the determinants of cardiac function: preload, afterload and contractil...
متن کاملAssessment of the Left Ventricle Wall Motion Using Tagged Magnetic Resonance Imaging Data (tMRI)
In this paper, the Radial Strain (RS) and Strain Rate (SR) was calculated using tagged MRI (tMRI) data. Using tagged magnetic resonance imaging (tMRI), the left ventricle short axis of five healthy adults (three men and two women) and four healthy male rats was imaged during diastolic and systolic phases on the mid-ventricle level. The RS and radial SR of the left ventricle were calculated at t...
متن کاملFetal pulmonary venous flow into the left atrium relative to diastolic and systolic cardiac time intervals.
OBJECTIVE To establish the nature and gestational age dependency of the pulmonary venous flow velocity pattern into the left atrium relative to systolic and diastolic phases of the cardiac cycle. DESIGN This was a cross-sectional study of Doppler measurements of fetal pulmonary venous inflow velocities, which were correlated with simultaneous recordings of transmitral and aortic flow velocity...
متن کاملRelationship of number of phases per cardiac cycle and accuracy of measurement of left ventricular volumes, ejection fraction, and mass.
In cine cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies, for any preset imaging parameters the number of phases per cardiac cycle for a single slice is proportional to breath-hold duration. We investigated the relationship between the accuracy of measurement of left ventricular (LV) end-diastolic and end-systolic volumes (EDV and ESV, respectively), mass and ejection fraction (EF), and the num...
متن کاملThe Different Mechanisms of Action Potential Propagation in the Heart
It was thought previously that cardiac muscle gap junctions provide low-resistance connections between cells and permit the local-circuit current to flow. Some evidences show that myocardial cells may not require low-resistance connections for successful propagation of the action potential (AP). It seems that some other types of mechanisms must be involved in AP propagation. In this article, we...
